And now - Feela in Japan! 2010-07-30
Last week I was on holiday in Jersey. As Natalie is six months pregnant amd Jordi is being toilet trained, we thought we'd better go somewhere easy to get to! Liked it much more than I thought I would, then, on arrival home, found two copies of The Last Free Cat waiting for me - in Japanese! If anyone had told me the book was coming out in Japan, I must have forgotten - but it looks absolutely great. See feela.co.uk.
Feela in Korea! 2010-07-20
The reputation of my teen novel The Last Free Cat is steadily growing - now I've had news that a publisher in Korea is bringing out the book! That's a first for me, though I do have books published in China and Taiwan.
Daley B lives! 2010-05-28
Fantastic news about Daley B, my bestselling picture book: Walker Books are about to revive it in a smaller paperback-size edition. The book's still in print in a number of countries, and is selling like hotcakes in China and Germany. To top it all, a children's theatre in Nurnberg, Germany wants to put the story on as a play!
Daley B, for those who don't know, was the illustrator Axel Sheffler's first hit, and my biggest seller at well over 100,000 copies.
Happy May Day 2010-05-01
Happy May Day everybody. May Day is of course International Workers Day, when the struggle for workers' rights is celebrated the world over. I'm all for that! Not that I've been working much lately, apart from the endless task of doing up my new home. I did visit my local school, Severn Primary, last week, and am looking forward to another visit next Tuesday.
Other news: a great review of The Last Free Cat in the South China Post. I'll put the review up at www.feela.co.uk.
More visits 2010-03-11
Just back from taking a writing squad in fantastic Aberyswyth, where I stayed at a really friendly guest house called Llwynygog. Thanks to Teresa Davies at the Arts Centre for arranging what I hope was a really useful scriptwriting session.

The week before I was in the historic village of Berriew (near Welshpool) visiting the primary school. Thanks everyone for a wonderful day. By the way, if the BBC organises a head teacher Masterchef, make sure Mrs Carter goes in for it!

More visits coming up soon.
Hi to Sawley Juniors 2010-03-02
I spent yesterday at Sawley Juniors, a fantastic school not far from Beeston, Nottingham, where I wrote my first published stories. The pupils came out with some testing questions and great ideas for their own stories. I hope I'll visit again some day.
It's all Greek to me 2010-02-08
On the "all my stuff" page I mention the eleven languages into which my books have been translated. Make that twelve now, as two of the House of Fun series have been published in Greece! I would type the titles, but my keyboard doesn't have the Greek alphabet!
Now it's February, happy new year 2010-02-04
Happy new year to all my readers - sorry it's a bit late, but I've been busy. Still writing my adult novel, planning another community arts project, preparing for some teaching at Newport University, organising birthday parties for Jordi (3) and Natalie (thirtysomething), doing my accounts, visiting my new local school on Severn Road and smashing our new house to bits in order to remake it just how we like it! Nothing new in terms of books for kids, but keep an eye out for more news on "Oshie" and "Mutiny on the School Ship Bounty" which are slowly progressing towards their publication days.
Oops 2010-02-04
In my article on swine flu, I said that 'Oshie' would be coming out in January - I should have said January 2011. Publishers plan a long way ahead these days.
Happy Midwinter everybody! 2009-12-19
Happy midwinter everybody, and remember, Jesus wasn't really born on December 25th - that was just a story the church made up so that they could take over the old midwinter festivals. They wanted to stop everyone feasting and having a good time as well, but they weren't very successful, I'm glad to say!
I've written a little alternative nativity story which you can find here.
